2020 was OUR 10th SEASON & last season, due to the loss of our sponsor.

MISSION: AXWFF is for experimental shorts made by WOMEN that present their own vision of movie making — we want to see something different and unique — challenge us to rethink what “experimental” means on your terms, outside of any standard form. By “film” we refer to a moving image, made with any media, that presents a transformative action or thought. Work that that has been shot by the artist and is under 20 minutes, has a better chance of being accepted as we have limited screening time.
Occasionally AXW includes work made by men that has a feminist leaning of some sort or another.
If your submission is selected it will be screened at one of the NEW FILMMAKERS Women’s Night at Anthology Film Archives in NYC during 2020.
Include an online link to your movie.
If your movie is selected you will be required to send an H264 or MP4 movie file.
PLEASE NOTE: Anthology Film Archives MIGHT BE temporarily closing APRIL 1st 2020 for several months as they rehab their building, and there may be a different venue that they will operate under during this time. If this location change is acceptable to you, please submit your film.
There is no yearly calendar, and notice is usually given about 3 months in advance, so sign onto the mailing list for information about the screenings!
OUR FIRST SHOW FOR THE 10th SEASON IS JANUARY 29, 2020.
Your film cannot appear in full on any publicly viewed internet site, until 2021.
If the film is under 15 minutes, there is a better chance it will get screened.
If your movie is not in English it should have subtitles.
Each submitted work has to be labeled specifying title, artist and running time.
Work should be submitted as an online link— Please indicate the web address and phone number in your email.

- If you are selected, you must provide a link for streaming in Anthology’s theatre setting.
- Program notes on paper are available at the Festival Event, and remain on line in our Archive Pages at https://axwonline.com
- Submissions: 1 work for $12 and 2 works for a $15 donation.PLEASE submit 1 film per entry form.

Today we are publicly starting the crowdfunding campaign for the documentary Paradeiros (Whereabouts. The film portrays the reality of forced disappearances in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) through two perspectives: that of the domestic worker Sandra searching for her missing son Leandro; and that of state agents who deal with the many disappearance cases that arrive at police stations every day, in a city largely occupied by armed groups. ![]()
