TRT: 50.02 minutes
NIGHT TRAIN; Gloria Chung; USA; digi; 2.50
A train ride through a dark universe.
WATERWORKS; Lili White; USA; 4:20
WATERWORKS is a meditation on water. This is part 2 from the 3 sections of TRIPTYCH, based on psychic realities…. walking on land, walking on water…floating in between?
Water works with no set form. As gas, or liquid, or ice, it moves in every direction — a movement opposite of the material grid or linear progression…Water, an elemental now in jeopardy, nourishes the planet’s growth and forges the connection between all of life.
The human body is around 60% water. As such, we are affected by planetary forces, just like the tides in the ocean. The Chinese say water rules the heart, it’s essence ever flowing, and dangerous. What is the nature of time? Of the difference in time spent awake, and that when asleep? What carries us between these two states? Myth says we cross a river into the land of sleep that is shared with the realm of death, and dreams.
MY FAVORITE OBJECT; Meredith Moore; Sound: Max Eilbacher; Voice: Melissa Epp;
USA; 4:54
“Any object, intensely regarded, may be a gate of access to the incorruptible eon of the gods.” – James Joyce
STAY WHERE YOU ARE!; Anna Pasztor; Music: Žibuoklė Martinaitytė; USA; 5.40
This video was created for the ScreenComposition Event of the Experimental Intermedia Festival 2019 Edition. They invited me to create a short, non- narrative, video, as the result of the close collaboration of a video artist and a composer. STAY WHERE YOU ARE! is a visual meditation about the clash between the dreams and desires for a better life and the coldhearted existence in the current climate in our globalized world. With special regard to children. No words needed.
MEMORY VIII – I REMEMBER YOU FROM THE FUTURE; Gloria Chung; Music: Paul Verciglio; USA; 6.30
“Hello. Your emigration to the outlands will require sleep chamber sequestration. To make your journey more pleasant, you may choose to dream personalized sequences for the duration of your jaunt. Please provide three words to guide your selection.” Video clips taken during trips and on my commute home have been reimagined into a science fiction narrative, ruminating on utopias/dystopias, climate change, “Star Trek”, dreams, memory triggers, rebirth, and Stephen King’s “The Jaunt” (Part 2 of 3).
ONIKUMA; Direction, Animation, Editing, Cinematography: Alessia Cecchet; Production: Carlton Daniel Jr; Costumes: Paul Capotosto; Animation Consultant & Sound Recording: Josh Tuthill; Camera Assistant: Ash Lu; Sound design & score: Nigel Li;
CAST: Sandy Siquier, Sarineh Garapetian, Jacob Riddle; ITALY/USA; 12.08
ONIKUMA is Japanese yokai, a demon bear known for chasing horses. Surrounded by a foreign landscape, two women will understand that demons can come in different forms. ONIKUMA is an artwork intended to be filled in by those who are watching. Hence, the symbolism in this film can only be individually unlocked by inscribing one’s subjectivity in it.
MEMORY IX – UTOPOS/DYSTOPOS; Gloria Chung; MUSIC: Paul Verciglio; USA; 7.30
“Hello. This is the visual log from one of the first voyages to the outlands.”
Video clips taken during trips and on my commute home have been reimagined into a science fiction narrative, ruminating on utopias/dystopias, climate change, “Star Trek”, dreams, memory triggers, rebirth, and Stephen King’s “The Jaunt” (Part 3 of 3)
YOURS TRULY LOST; Niyaz Saghari; Music: Mikey Price; Super 8 to digi; UK; 6.00
From the womblike warmth of our family home to the noisy, chaotic hustle and bustle of streets and bazaar, there is an emotional intensity showing my home town Tehran to my son Jonah in his first visit. How can I explain the complex love and hate relationship with my home town to Jonah and how it has shaped his mother? Jonas Mekas passed away while I was editing this diary film. I used a segment of his voice over from “As I Moving ahead occasionally I saw Brief glimpses of Beauty” which summed up my emotions towards life and my home town. At the end there is a piece for Jonah for when he grows up and my homage to Jonas.
JUPITER BY THE SEA; Gloria Chung; USA; 1.30
WHEN HUMANS BECOME ANDROIDS, WILL THEY DREAM THESE ELECTRIC DREAMS? This work is from “Into the Midst of Things”, a series of one- to two-minute vignettes that reflect on the different facets of human life which are being existentially altered by technological advancements. The series portrays landscapes defined by technology and explores whether such landscapes are in the future or already here.
